configure gateway device

Introduction

The purpose of the gateway configuration step is to add the following configuration parameters to your LoRaWAN gateway:

  • Gateway’s private key and certificate are the secure credentials that will be used by AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN to verify the identity of the gateway before establishing a successfull connection. Please note, that in AWS shared responsibility model, it’s the responsibility of the customer to guarantee secure storage of the private key on the gateway.
  • CUPS and/or LNS TLS endpoint URIs that will be used for the ingestion of LoRaWAN payloads (LNS) and gateway configuration and maintenance (CUPS).
  • CUPS and/or LNS TLS endpoint server certificates allowing the gateway to verify the identity of CUPS and/or LNS TLS endpoints before establishing the connection.

Instructions for qualified gateways

For the qualified gateways listed on AWS Partner Device Catalog you will find detailed instructions by clicking on the link below:

If you have a starter kit from AWS Partner Device Catalog, please consult the according page of AWS Partner Device Catalog for instructions.

After completing these steps, please continue to the Lab 5: verify gateway connectivity section.

Instructions for other gateways that support CUPS protocol

The following instructions pertain to configuring gateways that support the CUPS (Configuration and Update Server) protocol. If your gateway does not support CUPS, please read the section “Instructions for other gateways that support LNS protocol”

Step 1: upload the gateway certificate and gateway private key

In the previous lab you created and stored gateway credentials. Upload the following files to your gateway:

  • <gateway id>.cert.pem: Gateway device certificate file
  • <gateway id>.private.key: Gateway device private key file
  • cups.trust: Trust certificate for CUPS (Configuration and Update Server) endpoint

Step 2: configure the CUPS endpoint URL
Specify the CUPS endpoint URL that you noted in the previous section:

  • https://XXXXXXXXXXXX.cups.lorawan.<region>.amazonaws.com:443: CUPS (Configuration and Update Server) endpoint

After completing these steps, please continue to the Lab 5: verify gateway connectivity section.

Instructions for other gateways that support LNS protocol

Step 1: upload the gateway certificate and gateway private key Upload the following files to your gateway:

  • <gateway id>.cert.pem: Gateway device certificate file
  • <gateway id>.private.key: Gateway device private key file
  • lns.trust: Trust certificate for CUPS (Configuration and Update Server) endpoint

Step 2: configure the LNS endpoint URL
Specify the LNS endpoint URL you have noted in the previous section:

  • https://XXXXXXXXXXXX.cups.lorawan.<region>.amazonaws.com:443: CUPS (Configuration and Update Server) endpoint

After completing these steps, please continue to the Lab 5: verify gateway connectivity section.
