LoRa Basics Station

To connect to AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN, gateway run LoRa Basics Station software with a version 2.0.4 or later. This software is maintained and distributed by Semtech Corporation via their Github repository.

All LoRaWAN gateways qualified for AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN already contain a compatible version of LoRa Basics Station.

LoRa Basics Station handles the packet flow between devices and cloud-hosted applications, managing spectrum access, and more. To accomplish these tasks the Basics Station specification defines two back-end protocols:

  1. The LNS protocol is the primary data plane, providing a low-latency bidirectional communication channel over secure WebSockets. Aspects of load-balancing and centralized configuration management are built into this protocol.

  2. The CUPS protocol enables credentials management and signed firmware update interface.
